Kids Room Inspiration

One of my favorite things to design are kids rooms. I love to mix the out of the box ideas with practical solutions and that little bit of magic, because after all it’s still a kids bed room. When I was younger I loved to watch the movies from Hollywood where kids often had beautifully designed bedrooms, straight from a fairy tale. And now I get to create those rooms for my and others children!

Let’s start with the basics, kids grow and so do their interests and hobbies. Try to design a room that can grow with them. A wallpaper or wall paint is easy to change but redesigning a whole kids room every few years is quite expensive. So focus on high quality furniture. Think of extendable beds, a closet which he or she will still like in few years, shelves to place their favorites items and so on. With the basics literally in the right place, it’s time to play around with accessories that are easy and fun to change every now and then.

One of the things I love in kids rooms are cozy nooks and places to escape. A place where they can read a book or giggle with their friends or siblings. A little bench full with pillows where they can lay down to chill for a bit.  Or think of a tent/canopy made from beautiful linen with cute lights in them. A big floor pillow with a bunch of pillows and some plaids will be the perfect finish.

Another thing is to add personality into their room. A beautiful drawing in a frame or a framed photo. Personalized items such as customized pillows with their name or a light string can be a nice addition as well. My oldest daughter loves arts and craft, so a beautiful fabric pin board for her pieces of art would be perfect. Is your kid crazy about rugby, football, surf or tennis? A vintage leather ball, surfboard or tennisracket will give that extra personal touch to this place.

And last but not least, create tons of storage. It helps with tidying up the room easily after a long day, but it’s also perfect to hide the less aesthetic items. Look for rattan or seagrass baskets or some cool colored cotton ones. A closet with closed doors on the lower part of the closet will work perfectly as well. That’s another tip, keep the most important items on kids level, so they’ll be able to grab their favorites themselves.
